Project's Overview

When builder and designer Simon Samson set out to construct his own home, he wasn’t just looking for style or comfort. Simon had a bigger vision, to create a home that could withstand the impacts of climate change, maintain energy independence, and champion Australian-made technology.

As the founder of Sustainabuilding, a South Australian company focused on sustainable residential construction, Simon wanted to build a home that would not only be thermally efficient but also climate-resilient and grid-independent. “Climate is changing,” Simon said. “So being self-resilient and climate-resilient is really important.”

His goal was to ensure that the house could endure both extreme temperatures and unexpected blackouts without compromising on comfort or performance.

The Solution

Simon installed a 7.2kW Tindo solar system paired with a 13.2kWh battery, selecting Tindo for their quality, Australian manufacturing, and proven performance.

“When you’re making an investment for your home, you want to know it’s going to last,” he explained. “Tindo’s warranty really backs up how long and how resilient their panels are. I was impressed with how well they stood up compared to the competition.”

The system was tested under real-world conditions at the end of 2023, when a week-long blackout struck the region. While neighbouring homes struggled with essentials like refrigeration, Simon’s solar and battery system kept the house running smoothly throughout.

Why Tindo?

For Simon, the decision to go with Tindo was about more than just solar, it was about values.

“Supporting Australian-made is really important for our country to boost our economy internally and to have the manufacturing and production capacity that makes us more resilient as a nation.”

He also praised the simplicity and sustainability of solar energy:
“Solar’s the cleanest form of energy and the least invasive. It’s an easy way of generating electricity locally and independently. That makes you really resilient, and Tindo was an easy choice.”

The Results

Reliable, Consistent, Resilient Energy

The system has been operating with reliable and consistent performance ever since installation. “We’ve been generating reliably and consistently, really happy with them.” Simon said.

For a builder who understands the long-term value of quality and sustainability, the decision to install Tindo was as much about future-proofing as it was about energy bills. This home now stands as a showcase of what’s possible when smart design meets smart energy.
