The Future of Clean Energy With Eligible Solar Batteries

Switching to clean, sustainable solar energy is a great decision. It is beneficial for you and the environment. Without solar batteries, you will not be able to unlock the full potential of renewable power. To drive the adoption of solar batteries forward, the government has launched a new program. Under this scheme, eligible solar batteries become more accessible to homes and small businesses. Many Australians also look to trusted local experts like Tindo for guidance in choosing the right eligible solar batteries and maximising government rebates.

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides significant discounts on eligible solar batteries. You can enjoy all the benefits of solar batteries with a significantly lower upfront investment. The right solar company can help you make the most of this federal program. They can also guide you to choose the best eligible solar batteries for your energy needs and budget.

Here is all you need to know about government solar incentives and batteries eligible for discounts:

What Is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?

In July 2025, the government officially launched the Cheaper Home Batteries program. It is part of the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Under this program, eligible households can receive up to 30 per cent reductions on the upfront cost of solar batteries; this percentage will be reduced every year until 2030. The amount of the discount will be determined based on the usable capacity of eligible solar batteries.

Who Is Eligible for Discounts on Solar Batteries?

In general, many households can benefit from the Cheaper Home Batteries program. To be eligible, there is a list of criteria you should meet. First, your solar batteries should be installed on or after the 1st of July 2025. All batteries installed before this date are not eligible for support under this program. So, if your solar system already has a battery, you can install an additional one to be eligible.

Installed solar batteries must be Clean Energy Council approved. To be eligible, these batteries should also be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) ready. Rebates are available for eligible solar batteries with 5kWh – 50kWh usable capacity. However, you can install solar batteries with a capacity of up to 100kWh.

All eligible batteries must be attached to a new or already existing solar system. The solar batteries should also be installed by a Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited professional. Discounts received under the Cheaper Home Batteries program can be stacked with existing state rebates. To maximise savings, you should research all rebates your solar system is eligible for.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Solar Batteries?

The Cheaper Home Batteries program made solar batteries more accessible to eligible homeowners. Adding solar batteries to eligible systems unlocks more benefits of renewable energy. It opens the door to using solar power day and night. During the day, batteries save excess power generated by solar panels. At night or on cloudy days, you can rely on solar batteries to supply clean energy.

Solar batteries will not only increase your independence from the grid. Maximising your solar energy use means lower power bills. That is how solar batteries eligible for the government rebate deliver both upfront and ongoing savings. To be eligible for the Cheaper Home Batteries program, solar batteries must be VPP-ready. If you decide to participate in a VPP (Virtual Power Plant), you will unlock more savings or income.
